CROMWELL TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the above body was held in the Council Chamber on Tuesday evening last, there being present— The Mayor (Mr Smitham), and Councillors Dagg, Dawkins, and Brown. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, A letter was read from Messrs Nicholas and Co., through their agent, Mr Smvthie.s, asking the Council to grant them a piece of ground between the coal-pit and the Victoria Junction Motel for sluicing purposes. It was resolved to hold over the application for consideration until the report of the District Engineer was made public. A letter was read from Mr Charles II istings, asking the Council to grant him £2O on account of his contract for kerbing and channelling Melmore Terrace.— The amount was granted. The following accounts were passed for pavment :—John E. Beattie, £3 ; John J. Williams,. £2. It was resolved to hold the Revision Court on the 15th July : the nomination for Mayor on the I.3th, and the poll (if necessary) on the 21st; fcho nomination of Councillors and auditors on the 20th, and the poll on the Ist August. The resignation of the Town Clerk was road, and on the motion of CrDagg, seconded by Cr Brown, accepted, with the understanding that he should hold office until the appointment of a successor. This concluded the basinossof the evening, and with the usual vote of thanks to the chair, the Council adjourned.
