ONLY A BOY, Only a boy With bis noloe and fun, The veriest mystery under the buu ; Aa brimful of mischief, and wit, and glee. As ever a human frame can bo, And aa bard to manage aa—what I ah me Tia hard to tell, Yet we love him well. Only a boy, with bia fearful tread, Who cannot be driven, but mast bo led j Who troubles the neighbors' doga and cats, And tears more clothes, and spoils more hats. Loses more top, and kites, and bats, Than would stook a stero For a year or more, Only a boy with his wild strange ways, With his idle hours in hia busy days ; . With hia remarks and hia odd replies j Sometimes foolish, sometimes wise, Often brilliant for one of bia size, Aa a meteor hurled from the planet world. Only a boy, who will bo a man, If Nature goes on with her first great plan— If water, or fire, or some fatal snare, Conspire not to rob us of this our heir, Our blessing, our trouble, our reat, our care, ■" Our torment, our joy I ■ "Only a boy." • BBSes i ■:,'•-■,■„' -a
