THE PUBLIC HEALTH. The Health Department is anxious to prevent as far as possible the spread of the white plague. With this object a clause was inserted in the Charitable Aid and Hospitals Amendment Bill to enable patients suffering from diseases of a contagious character to be isolated in hospitals or other institutions. But the clause goes much further than providing; against consumption. Under it neople suffering from other complaints which are common in the community may be isolated. One disease usually treated as private and which is undermining, the stamina of the race could be treated under the Bill. The Minister for Marine told the House that recently a person suffering from this terrible complaint had been refused admission to the Commonwealth of Australia, He came on to New Zealand where he'had at one time domiciled.
