KATTANGATA NEWS.

fBOM OSB OWN COaBBSPOKBMT. !. General. Preparations are-being made for the rose sho#, which is being held on the 10th inst. The season has so far been very unfavourable for the culture of the "queen of flowers," and the continued wet weather has been the means of spoiling what should have been the most extensive production of roses in Kaitangata. Last year's rose show has had the effect of well-stocked gardens of trees taking the place of many of the less favoured shrubs and useless flowers. The show was to have been a competione, but whether the unfavourable t-eason lias anything to do with the change, this year's fixture will now bo "exhibition only," a change to be welcomed by amateur growers. « The Clutha County Council, by its tardiness in attending to the formation of or repairs to the roads leading to the Otanomomo settlement and Port Molyneux, has lately come in for a great amount of adverse criticism. The state " of these roads, as described by the deputation of settlers who waited upon the council at their last meeting, has to a groat extent shattered the fond hopes of many local residents who have been looking forward to a pleasant holiday and a pleasant drive to Port. This seaside resort depends largely upon the holiday season's incursion of visitors, aud it is chiefly along these much condemned roads that visitors must travel. It is to be regretted that an up-to-date bridge does not span the Kaou branch, as were there one the amount of traffic, summer or winter, would certainly demand roads which would be pieasantcr to drive along, and success instead of despair attend the life and labours of the new settlers at Otanomomo.

The following vital statistics were recorded at the Kaitangata registrar's office for the month of November:— Marriages 4, births I!, deaths 1.
