His sire, Agitator, is well known as one of the best breeding horses in New Zealand., He was a prize-taker at the Highland Society's Show in Scotland, and was for many years the champion stallion in New Zealand. His etock almost without exception possess his gaiety, style and character.
Crown Prince was probably tho greatest colonial-bred Clydesdale sire, and amongst other well-known horses sired the fo)lowing:--Sir Percival, champion in Melbourne in 1897, 1898, 1899, 1900 and 1901, and was sold as a three-year-old in Melbourne to Mr J. E. Walter, Werribee, for 600gns; Prince Albert, sold in Melbourne as a four-year-old to Mr Wm. Manifold for 700gns; Prince Alfred, champion of Waimate, 1899; Cedric the Saxon, champion at OsMnaru, 1897,1898; Prince Arthur, several times champion at Napier; Prince of the Glen, sold in Melbourne as a three-year-old to Mr J. Blackwood, Wilby, for 400gns; Flore, the champion mare at Oamaru and Dunedin in 1898. Prom the above it will be seen that SOCIALIST is descended from the moat fashionable strains of the Clydesdale breed on both sides, and as he has already an established reputation as a successful horse at the stud he should command the patronage of breeders in this district.
