TO TBAYEL this season in the Ciutha and surrounding districts the Purebred Clydesdale Stallion, MAJOR STEWART. MAJOR STEWART (S.B. 650), aire Captain Stewart (imp.); s -@. 12076; g-sire, Lord Stewart (10084); dam, Necklet (13905), by Holyrood (9546); g-dam,' Necklace, by Conspiracy; g-g----dam, Nest (10760), by Vanguard (4768). Dam, Lady Cranbourne, by Lord Cranbourne, by Lord Salisbury (imp.), 114; g-dam, Polly's.Pride, by Prido of Palmerstou; g-g-dam, Jean, by Sir Colin (imp.). Captain Stewart (imp.) was a very big horse, splendid legs and feet, and a great breeding horse, his stoek winning all over the colony. Captain Stewart was a very successful horse in the show ring. Lady Cranbourne, a big mare, held her own whenever exhibited, and a winner with progeny on several occasions. Lord Cranbourne was a very successful breeding horse, as also was Lord Salisbury. MAJOR STEWART (650) was foaled on Christmas Day, 1905. In 1907, as a two year old, gained first at Waimate; 1908, as a three year old, first and reserve champion Dunedin Parade, in a ring of 23 three year old and 40 aged stallions; and first Christchureh Show and three specials, including Lord Rothschild's bowl for best draught on ground by imported sire and special for best walking horse on ground; first and champion Waimate; first Dunedin Summer Show. 1909: Second Waimate; second Christchurch; first Dunediu. 1910: Dunedin Parade, third (Baron Fyvie, imp., being placed first); first and champion, Waimate; second, Christchurch. 191.1: First, Bslelutha. 1912: First Balclutha. MAJOR STEWART won Lord Rothschild's Cup three years iu succession, thus becoming his own property. MAJOR STEWART has proved himself a very sure foal-getter. ORPHAN BOY is a beautiful dark bar horse, rising seven years, *and stands fully 17 hands high, with splendid feet and pasterns, and good clean flat bone and is a very heavy horse. His sire, Wee Macgregor, won first and champion at Dunedin as a three-vear-old, and was got by the celebrated Clydebank (imp.), out of Jean, by Lord Salisbury (imp.). Clydebank (imp., 481 N.Z.5.8.) won 28 first, eight special and 12 champion prizes, as well as first for stallion and progeny. His prizes include:—First prize at Campbelltown, in . eotland, in 1597; first and champion at Dunedin in 1898; first and champion prizes at Dunedin, Taieri, Milton and Balclutha shows in 1899; first and champion prizes at Taieri and first at Dunedin. ORPHAN BOY'S g-g-sire, Primus (8897 C.5.8.), gained as a tbreo-year-old second prize at the Glasgow and Ayr open shows. G-g-g-sire, Prince of Wales (673 C.5.8.), won first prize at the H.S. show at Edinburgh in 1869; second at H.S. show, Dumfries, in 1870; first at H.S. show, Kelso, in 1872; and first at the Royal Manchester i. 1869. G-g-g-g----sire, General (322 C.5.8.), won irst prize at the HJ3. show at Inverness in 1865. G-g-g-g-g-sire, Sir Walter Scott (797 C.8.8.), won first prise at the H.S. show at Dumfries in iB6O, and the premium at the International Show held at Battersea ia 1862. G-g-g-g-g-g-sire, Old Clyde (574 C.5.8.), winner of third prize at the H,S. show, Aberdeen, in 1858, and the premium at Haddingtou the same year. ORPHAN BOY'S dam, Queen, by King of the Clans, by Athelstane, won a number of prizes as a two and three-year-oid, but died as a four year-old, when Orphan Boy was nine days old. G-dam, Jess, by Lord Salisbury (1205 C.5.8., imp.), who was never beaten in th"* ' l either in Scotland or New .id. It is enough to mention Lord Salisbury in any animal ! s pedigree to stamp them with the hall mark of quality, as he undoubtedly did more to improve the draught horses of New Zealand than any horse that ever landed on the shores of the Dominion.

By the above it will be seen that ORPHAN BOY is full of the very best blood Scotland ever produced He himself hag taken a number of prizes, being first as a three-year-old at Euroa, and first and champion as a four-year-old at the same place. He stood out as a five-year-old to let his stable mate win. ORPHAN BOY travelled this district last season, and proved himself highly successful with his mares.
