FROM OUR OWN UOIIREBPONDHNT. CHURCH SOCIAL. On Monday cveiiiiij;, 17th inst., was held the anniversary social in coiiiipction with Waiwera Church. There a lavj»u and representative <:athenu<> present from all parts of the district, The choir, undo! - the leadership of Mr M. Duiinott, carried out a varied aiel pleasant musical which k;h much appreciated. Other ladies ami gentlemen also assisted. Miss M. KVp. veare contributed a solo, as also did Mr Stanley Edwards, iiolh items well received. 11 r Lennox ami .Mr dailies Sutherland each contributed a humorous recitation which received applause. The ladies oi' the district, suplioil refreshments in abundance.
The Rev. 11. Williams presided, ami had with liirn other speakers. Uev, \\ T , Saunders of Moray Church, Ihinedin, gare an instructive and inspiring address on "the work of the church, ami what the church stands for.'' The Rev, gentleman wan listened to with wrapt attention, and his address was much appreciated. Rev. A. Watson of Warepa, spoke on "church giving," and adviser! that the young people lie early trained to give, as it tended to greater interest in church work. Mr .lolm Cawlev, of Clydevalc, spoke of t lie necessity of cadi member using his, or her, influence individually, to add to the. church membership. if this were done, great jjood would follow. Mr Lennox endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers, and marks of the previous speakers, ami congratulated the ollicebearers and miaister on the work done, during the year. The following reports were read: the Session report by Mr ,1. Ivhvards; the Treasurer's report by Mr \Y. Sutherland; and the Secretary's report by Mr B. Tait. Each of these reports disclosed an eminently successful year's work, i The session report showed that seven new members were added during Iho year and that the average rummuniuii roll for Waiwera was ti,'!; the total for the whole parish being about llu. The Sabbath School showed an average attendance of I.'!, with seven teachers. The treasurer's report, as read by Mr \V. Sutherland, showed that, the funds have been well maintained. £im were paid off tin; debt on the Township Church, while upwards of iMO was contributed towards Dr. Kirk's Fund. .Mr H. Tait, as secretary, spoke favourably un the work of the vear.

It lias been thought for some time tlint the ioeal hall i<mjitir<'<l some repairs, and that a piano was re<|iiircil for the various entertainments held from time to time, and in order to meet the expeuso of these, various suggestions were offered. It was thought, however, that a bazaar would commend itself as being the most suitable way of raising funds, aud with that object in view, a strong committee was at once formed to carry out this project. The bazaar was formally opened ill the public hall on Thursday, the ].itli inst., Mr D. Stewart, .Mayor of Balclu* tha, being present and after commenting on the excellency and quantity of the goods displayed for sale, formal!/ declared the bazaar There Was a good attendance In l' lo afternoon and evening, and a successful sale was the result; the taking# amounting to about £"!>. The following ladies presided at tli« various at-alle, viz., work ataH (No. Mrs Wright aud Minn I'MV; work stall (No. 2), Misses McLaren and Smart; produce stall, Mosdanie* McDonald ainj Bower; sweet stalls, Misses A. and i'l. Stuart; toy stall, Misers L. iie»' ami K. liower; drink stall, Misses M. Field and W. Wright; Bran tub, -Misses E. Wright and Miller; iiower stall, Mrs McLean; refreshment tent, Misses I.' * wards, Smart (-), Mahler -V Wylie, Littlejohii ami -Mrs Waters. Th* competitions were in the able hands o Mr L. Kdwards. , Tlu> comniittee was indefatigable m its efforts to make the affair a success, and in this it was ably supported l>y friends from the township and surrounding district.
