BALCLUTHA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual" meeting of the Bnlclutha ■ Borough Council was hold in the Council * 'Chambers on Tuesday evening. There . were '-present : Messrs Canning, Dunne, A Macdonald, Hoij^, and Mason. Henderson, solicitor, with reference to tho exemptions from toll provided "by the Public Works Act ; also a letter from Mr Alex. Bain with reference to his contract for street lamps. The correspondence was received, with "the exception of Mr Bain's letter, the "terms of which were considered insulting to the Council. . The toll correspondence Avas referred to the Finance Gommittee for report. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts wero passed for payment : — Robt. Cramond, cartage, 63 ; "Potter and Doull, timber, Ll3 3s 9d ; Totter and Doull, timber, Ll 5s Gd ; •"Wages account, LO Is. WEIGHBRIDGE. Tlie tender of Mr J. Moxliay, L 5, for "weighbridge for twelve months was accepted. HASBOROUGH ROAD. Tenders for forming and metalling Hasborough road to the quarry were read and referred to the Works Committee to accept the lowest or call fo? fresh tenders with modified specifications. LOWER RESERVE. Mr Dunne called attention to tho fact ■of a portion of the ground of the Lower "Reserve "having been fenced in by John Maher. He moved that the Inspector be instructed to take immediate action in the Seconded by Mr Mason and carried. It was pointed out by Beveral Councillors that" somo destruction was being •carried on throughout the township, and irregularities existed in which immediate action should be taken. It was agreed now that the bye-laws were in force that the Inspector should take immediate proceedings to put a stop to all such without any instructions from tho Council. STREET 'LAMTS. A conversation ensued with reference to most economical mode of having tho street lamps lighted at otherwise attended to. It was ultimately agreed to refer tho matter to the Works Committee for report. TOWN BUILDING. Mr Hogg reported that tho deputation appointed at last mooting had waited upon the Chairman of the County Council, with a' view to a joint place of meeting being erected for both bodies. Tlio result waa that the Chairman hn,d brought the matter before the County Council and a Committee had been appointed to confer with that from the Borough. The meeting then adjourned.
