KAITANGATA.
A meeting of the School Committee was held in the school- room on Monday evening. The following members were present : Messrs W. T. Smith (Chairman), J. Robertson, W. Aitchison, R. Darling, J. Hislop, and W. M. Shore.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
A letter was read from A. Hislop, drawing the Committee's attention to expiry of insurance on the master's residence and school buildings. — Resolved thatthe buildings be re-insured. Correspondence was also read from the Secretary to the Education Board, authorising the appointment of George Hislop as pupil teacher. Also calling on the Committee to nominate a person eligible for election as a member of the Education Board in place of Mr DeLatour, resigned. Mr J. Robertson moved that tho Secretary write Mr Adam Rolland, Blackstone Hill*, asking his consent to allow the Committee to nominate him. In doing so he (Mr Robertson) said he . believed Mr Rolland to be a gentleman in every way qualified to fill the vacancy, and considering the position he occupied in the late election he had no doubt but that Mr Rolland would be well supported.
The motion was seconded by Mr J. Hislop, and agreed to. Accounts from the Clotha Leader and Morning Herald, for advertising, were passed for payment.
Mr W. Aitchison gave notice that on account of parents being so dilatory in sending their children to school, he would move at next meeting that the compulsory clauses be put in force. The meeting then adjourned.
