SOUTH MOLYNEUX ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of this j Board was held on Thursday, 30fch May. j There were present : Messrs Johnston, j Christie, Bradfield, Lees, Melville, Smith, Griffiths, Steven, Hay, Paterson, and Jowitt (in the absence of the Chairman), presiding. The minutes of last meeting were read and approved of. A letter was read from the Colonial «• Secretary appointing John H. Jenkinson as Auditor to the Board. A letter from the Minister of Lands was read, stating that His Excellency the Governor had delegated to Mr J. P. Maitland Commissioner of Crown Lands, the performance of certain duties under the Port Molyneux Reserves Management Ordinance, 1875. A Gazette of 9th May, and two books of license forms to run cattle on Reserve were received with the letter. The balance-sheet and statement of the Board's accounts, certified as correct by the auditors was ordered to lie for inspection by those interested for one month, and the Clerk to advertise an abstract statement of income and expenditure in the Ciiim-iA Leader. A letter was read from the Treasury, Wellington, stating that the sum of Lll2 19s -6d had been lodged to the credit of the Board at the Bank, being the balance of tho Board's share of the funds at credit of account of tho County of Clutha. A letter was read from the Clerk of the Clutha County Council requesting the Board to give up any claim to subsidy from Government, and:' if any' voted to them to return the same jjto the County Council for their expenditure, as tlie I Council had paid up overdraft incurred by the Board. - ;> [The resolution passed upon the subject by the Board will be found in our report of the . meeting of the Clutha County Council]. A letter was read from Mr Roscoe, Puerua, requesting the Board to improve the approach to his property. The Clerk was instructed, to inform Mr Roscoe that the Board cannot see its way to accede to his request. There only beinc; one tender for contract No. 137, the Clerk was instructed to call again for tenders for next month. Three tenders were received for contract No. 138, and Alexander Allison's was accepted—Amount, .L2B 17s 6d." There were four tenders for contract No: 139, but none of them were accepted. The Clerk was instructed to write the Clutha Road Board to ascertain, whether they had come to any agreement with Nathan Veitch, Puerua, the bridge at his property being impassable for dray traffic. The Inspector reported on road from Port Molyneux to the Nuggets, and was instructed to call for tenders to repair the worst parts of same. He also reported that the late floods had washed away a portion of the stone building on Ko'roro creek road. He was instructed to examine and see if a track could be made a little higher up. Accounts were passed to the amount of L33 15s, and the Board adjourned to the last Thursday in June.
