MATAU ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Matau district Road Board was held on Saturday afternoon. There were present : Mr Inglis (Chairman), and Messrs Mosley, Robertson, and Bell. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read, it was moved by Mr Robertson and seconded by Mr Bell that the same be confirmed as read. — Agreed to. The Chairman read a letter from Mr James Grey, proprietor of the Bridge Hotel, Kaitangata, asking the Board to put a few loads of metal in front of his _iotel. The clerk was instructed to request Mr Grey to arrange with Mr Morrison, contractor, as the Board declined supplying the same. The Chairman read a letter from the Treasury, Wellington, stating that the sum of L 45 3s 9d had been placed at the credit of the Board in the bank, being share of the funds at credit of the County of Clutha on 31st March, 1878.— Received. Attention was called to a resolution passed at a special meeting of the Board, held on the 9th February, 1878 :— To petition the Clutha County Council to take over certain roads on Inch Clutha as County foada. It' was moved by Mr Bell and seconded by Mr Robertson, " That the Chairman and Mr Mosley, as a deputation wait on the Clutha County Council at next meeting, and place the resolution before the Council. — Carried. |

The balance-sheet for the year ending 31st, March, 1878, was laid on table. It was moved that the same be advertised i in the local paper two times. The following accounts were passed for payment: — Thomas Rowelly, progress payment, ditching, Inch Clutha, L2O ; Wm. T. Smith, repairs, Kaitangata bridge, L 7 lis Id. The matter of the nomination of members for the current year was introduced. It was moved by Mr Mosley and seconded by Mr Robertson—" That Mr James M'Kinlay be appointed Returning Officer for Inch Clutha subdivision ; nomination to take place on Thursday, 13th June, at 12 noon in the schoolhouse, Inch Clutha. Also re the nomination of members for the current year for North Molyneux sub-division, it was moved by Mr Mosley, and seconded by Mr Robertson, " That Mr George Inglis be appointed Returning Officer for North Molyneux sub-division, nomination to take place on same date at Stirling." — Carried. The meeting then adjourned.
