WASTE LANDS BOARD.
Wednesday, May 1. The regular meeting held was attended by the Chief Conmiissioner, and Messrs Green, Thomson, Strode, Bastings, and Clark.
The Chief Commissioner drew the attention of the Board to the following licensees having neglected to execute their licenses within the time required by the Act of 1872 :— James Woods, Waikaka District ; and John M'Lennon, Cornelius Crowman, C. A. Lees, Alex. Cameron, Michael Carr, Alex. Meggat, John Allen, and Thomas Qartland, Waipahi District. He recommended that, these licenses bo cancelled. — It was decided to re-open the land for application.
Mr Philip Vincent asked permission to purchase section 14, block 8, Toi Tois District, at present held by him under deferred payment lease. — Approved. Mr Thomas Hunter applied to purchase his residence area of one acre at the northwest corner of section 1, block 11, Chatton District.— lt appeared that the section was a portion of a goldmining reserve on which a number of Chinamen were now working, and the matter was about to be referred in the usual course of business to : the Warden for a report thereon, when Messrs Bastings and Green said that they had personally inspected the area during one of their trips through the country, and there was no reason, so far as they could judge, why the application should not be granted.— The Chief Commissioner pointed out that those gentlemen had not been duly appointed to report on this' particular section.— Mr Bastings retorted that he and -his colleague had gone about the country with their eyes open, and' he did not see the use of making trips unless they did so.— lt was resolved that the ap- ' plicant be asked to furnish a surrey. ■ , Mr Thomas George applied for a lease of section 7, block 6, Wyndham township, for the purpose of excavating lignite. — Re- ' solved that a license for seven years' be issued under section 86 of the Act. ' Ranger Hughan reported on deferred 1 payments in- Waikaka, Slopedown, : and Waipahi Districts, which have been bpen' • for application, for a considerable time/ withoixt finding a purchaser, and r'ecpm^ " mended that they be offered for sale.a t I 20s per acre.— Consideration of the n.atter ; : was deferred. Mr Thomas Brown applied that section 46, block 4, Tuturau District, be offered for sale by auction at 20s. Ranger Hug- . ; han reported thereon, recommending that the land be cut up into ten-acre sections '-. as land of special value, and the' upset price be fixed at L 4 per acre.. The reason '"."- of special value was on account of the ex-' ' .'■ cellent timber thereon; ' ."
