THE CLUTHA PRESBYTERY.

The Presbytery of Clutha met in the church, Balclutha,- r on Wednesday last. The members of Presbytery present were the Revs. Charles Connor (moderator) and Bannerman, Waters, Skinner, Chisholm, Borrie, Bett, M'Ara, and Allan, and Mr James Somerville, elder. The Rev. David Borrie, Waihola, was elected Moderator for the next six months, and took the chair accordingly. The Rev. C. Connor presented a memorial from Otaria, Taylor's Creek, and Waipahi districts, requesting that they be disjoined from the Popotunoa, and be formed into a separate charge. It was resolved that the memorial lie on the table, and that the memorialists be requested to inform the Presbytery what amount they propose to subscribe to the Sustentation Fund ; and the Presbytery further call the attention of the memorialists to the regulations of the Synod anent sanctioning of charges ; further, Mr Connor was requested to inform the Presbytery at its next meeting as to the number of households represented by the memorialists in the -aforesaid district. At this stage of the proceedings the Presbytery met in private. The Presbytery having again met in public, it was agreed to appoint a Commission to visit the Popotunoa charge to make enquiry anent the matters of the memorial laid on the table of the Presbytery from office-bearers of the said congregation, and to report to next ordinary meeting, the Commission to consist of the Moderator and Messrs Bannerman, Allan, and Chisholm. A letter was read from the Rev. Mr Boyd, minister at Alexandra, resigning his charge there. It was agreed to allow the resignation to lie on the table of the Presbytery until a commission from the Presbytery should visit Alexandra — the deputation to consist of Messrs Bannerman and Allan. It was agreed to appoint the same commission to make a Presbyterial visitation of Cromwell, and to report to a special meeting of the Presbytery to be held on | the second Wednesday of April. Messrs Waters, Allan, and M'Ara were appointed a committee to examine Mr James Blackie, a student about to enter his last year in theology. The meeting then adjourned.
