' -qfr '■ ■■■■'■ " .— — — * A meeting of the School Committee was held on Tuesday, the 12th inst. Present*. Messrs Andrew (chairman), Latta, J. Miller, R. Miller, Meder, M'Lean, and Dabinett. It was resolved to ask the Education j Board to erect a new school, the present I building being unsuitable ; failing this, to I apply for a grant towards new fittings for school, and repairs to the teacher's residence. The folloAving report of the Inspector was laid on the table : — "The Catlins River school was visited on Feb. 15, 1878. Furniture of room very unsuitable and frail ; new fittings necessary. •'War. Taylor, Inspector." The report Avas considered satisfactory. • After some discussion, the following gentlemen were nominated for the Education Board:— J. W. Thomson, M.H.R., Professor Black, Professor Shand, John M'Neil, James Sutton, Robert Gillies, Keith Ramsay, Rev. Wm. Bannerman, and Mr Shrimski, M.H.R. The meeting then adjourned. A special meeting of the Committee was held on Monday, the 18th inst. Present: Messrs Andrew (chairman), Latta, J. Miller, Meder, R. Miller, Dabinett, and M'Lean. The teacher stated that the number en- ' rolled for the present quarter was 84, and • the average attendance 55 It. was resolved that the Committee apply for the appointment of a pupil * teacher. .: Mr M'Lean tendered his resignation as , a member of the Bchool committee, and Mr John Esler was elected in his placß. It was resolved: to apply for a supply of r maps, ball-frame and globe for the use of the school.
