BALMORAL ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of -the Balmoral Road Board was held at Mr Thomas Paterson's house on Saturday last. There were : present : Messrs James. Smith (Chairman), Begg, Paterson, and Moir. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from. Mr J; Buchanan, tendering his resignation as a member of the Board for the Waitahuna West Subdivision. Qn the motion of Mr Begg, seconded by Mr Paterson, the same was accepted. A letter was read from the Chrichton Road Board as to opening a road in blocks 111. and XIII., Hillend, stating that if any of the settlers wished to use the road they were at liberty to remove any obstructions for themselves. Mr Moir moved and Mr Begg seconded — " That Mr Thomas Paterson see Messrs James Bishop and Robert Paterson, and arrange as to erecting gates on said road, which runs through* their properties." — Carried. A letter was read from the Tuapeka County Council, agreeing to pay the rates collected within the road district, provided the same were expended on work within I the Tuapeka County. The condition was agreed to. l A letter was read from the Balclutha Cemetery Committee, requesting that obstructions be removed from a road leading from the Cemetery, and requesting that the same be formed. It was considered unnecessary to expend any money upon the road in question, the Board, being-of opinion it would never be used. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Cunninghame " a final notice," intimating that unless the building and fences placed by him upon the road line in question, were not removed within fourteen days, that legal proceedings would be instituted against him. Mr Moir moved—" That steps be taken to close part of road line through blocks V. and VIII., Waitahuna West district." Seconded by Mr Begg, and carried. A letter was read from the Colonial Treasurer, intimating that L 244 subsidy had been paid to the credit of the Board. — Letter received. The Clerk reported that he had succeeded in collecting the whole of the rates within the road district. Tenders were opened for contract No. 1, metalling near to the Quarry Reserve, Balclutha. That of Mr A. Roy at L 3 18s per chain was accepted. Mr Moir moved — " That Mr John Buchanan be re-elected a member of the Board for Waitahuna West subdivision." Seconded by Mr Begg, and carried. The following accounts were passed for payment :— John Kinder, contract, No. 3, L 73 ; do. , contract No. 4, L 75 ; Clutha Leader, L 2 18s 6d ; Tweedie and Co., L4O ; Collector, L 5 ; John Henderson, L 7; W. Wilson, L 6 6s; do., L 4 8s; Stamps, Ll 12s 9d. The Chairman reported that he had appointea Mr Thomas Brooks, Valuator, for the Board. The meeting then adjourned.
