BALCLUTHA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Balclutha Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. There were present : Messrs Dunne (in the chair) Doull, Hogg, Cramond, Macdonald, and Canning. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A DISPUTED CLAIM. A letter was read from Mr Donald Keid, solicitor, on behalf of the Clutha Road Board, requesting payment of L 4, bein^ the price of timber sold by Mr Christie, Chairman or the Board, to Mr Mason, lato Mayor of Balclutha, on 20th July last. The matter gave rise to a lengthened discussion, in the course of which several councillors expressed an opinion that thu timber alleged to have been sold belonged to the bridge, which was handed over t;> the ■ Corporation. Under these circumstances ifc was resolved to decline pay men:, and to indemnify the late Mayor should a judgment be obtained by the Board. CHARLOTTE-STREET CONTRACT. A report was read by the Works Committee regarding the Charlotte-street contract—that the Committee had agreed t-> pay Mr Chirnside, L4l 2s 6d for the wo. .■: done on the contract, which he agreed t • accept and annul the contract. — Approv^?of. THE TOLL. The Chairman reported that Mr Dillo-f, the present toll-collector, had given noli .-> to terminate his appointment on Frii..;/ first, but agreed to collect for anoth •_•'.• month paying 10s a day for the toll. It was resolved that Mr Dillon's offer :.> . accepted, and that tenders be called x->: the toll. ' APPROACHES TO RAILWAY STATION.
