Original Correspondence. PORT MOLYNEUX.
TO THE EDTTOR. Sis, — I noticed in the Leader a few days ago a report of a great meeting, or at lea,st a great report of a meeting held at Port Molyneux ou the 21st inst. *" To anyone not very well acquainted with the place, the report of what occim-ed there would have led him to fancy that, the Port was at last about to vraken from its longslumber ; but anyone with the smallest knowledge oi the intense drowsy tendencies of the inhabitants thereof, would, be at once aware that the proceedings wore merely the feeble evidence of life afforded by a littlo stretching and turning before composing for another nap. " 'Tis the voice of the slu«;«im1, I hoar him complain, You have waked mo too soon, let me sliurbcr again." One of the speakers, with a feeble attempt at wit, tried to make some little use j of the worn-out story of the old woman who trusted in Providence till the bree!i/in broke, and then gave up. He drew the inference from the lively proceedings that night that the hrecltin in their case was yet sound and good, and their chances by no means at an end. I veiy. much fear that in the case of the Port, it is already broken, and all ai^e in the mud together. To show that facts bear out my assertions, I would ask, Was it not resolved that immediate steps should be taken to put beyond question the presence of coal or otherwise ? Was there not a Committee of eleven gentlemen appointed for the express purpose of carrying out this resolution, by collecting subscriptions, commencing operations, &c. ? Four weeks have already elapsed, and the Committee have not yet had its first meeting. ' Has a first meeting ever yet been arranged for, or has any member ever been trying to arrange for it ? Is the nap too sound ? In the hope that I might be a little more successful, I would like to insert the following as .an advertisement, on condition thab you charge nothing for it : — " Wanted, to find a 'Committee. — Five shillings will be given to anyone finding the Committee above referred to, and getting it to do its work. Tho above reward will be cheerfully paid oiit of the proceeds of the first ton of coal produced." With this inducement it is now possible that something will be done, and that there will bo another meeting in another twelve months. — I am, &c, Resident i?r Pout Molyjteux.
