RAILWAY TO CATLINS.

A riieetina' of the Catlins River Railway Committee, at wlpch Mr Fl^nderson presided, was held in the East Olutha Schoolroom ,on the evening of Friday the llt.h inst. The Chairman stated that with the view of forwarding* proceedings in connection with the proposed railway, be had called the meeting' for the purpose of waiting- upon Messrs Macandrew and L?irnach, who were at; -present in Dunedin, and to request them to use their influence with the Government in causing early steps to be -taken for the construction of the railway, either by setting aside a block of land or by any other means they may deem most ad- '■ visable. ' . • The following 1 g-entlemen were .accordingly unanimously appointed a deputation to wait upon Ministers at an 'early date for the purpose named, viz»: Messrs

Jowitt, Brugh, Henderson, ,-tßanks, and A. C. Begg, with a view to extending, the interest felt in. the p-oposed railway. ' " On the motion of Mr Jenkinson, a large addition was made to the Committee by adding the names • of parties scattered more widely over the district, and likely to be .affected 'by 'the .'rail way." Some further conversation took place as t6 the best route to' 'Cabins;.'' 'when the general feeling' of. the meeting «eemed to be in favour of delaying the consideration of this subject "until the repon of the deputation had been received.
