BRUCE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Bruce County Council met on Tuesday hist. There were present : [ Mr Henry Clark, Chairman ; Councillors Landels, Murray, M'Farlahe, Wayne, Petrie, Kobertson, and Duff. 'J'he minutes of rhe previous meeting 1 were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letrer was road from the Undersecretary, Wellington, informing 1 , the Council that the Police, who, by the Otjiiro Do»' Nuisance Ordinance, 1862, can alone legally collect do»'-taxe.«, are now doing 1 so in the County of Bruce. — Received. A letter was rend from the Clerk of the Crichton Koad Board enclosing- plan of a road line, which the Board has agreed to close, and asking the Council to sanction and oive effect to the resolution.—Application granted. A letter was read from the Waipori Road Board, recommending 1 that the vote granted to the VViabolr) West subdivision, may be expended on the road from the railway station at Clarendon. Moved by Councillor Robertson, seconded by Councillor Wayne, "That the Clerk write to the Wmpori Road Board, requesting them to state whether the road mentioned in their letter of July 9th is the same road, or is it a m;iin district road, as mentioned in letter of October Oth, on which they recommended the expenditure of the grant of L 25.' I—Carried.1 — Carried. WATER-HACK ON ROAD LINK, GLENORE. A report was read from the Inspector of Works, informing 1 the Council rhat he went to (jlenore- on the srh October and filled in the water-race, and tnld the parry of Chinamen using 1 the race not to open it nirain ; also thab he w«nt back on the 11th October, and found that the Chinamen had opened up the race again, and on making enquiries as to who authorised thurn, they showed a^ letter frum Mr Thomas Murray ;m---thorising them to open the race, and lie would be responsible for any damage that may occur in consequence. Councillor M'Fhi'hne thought that if rhe water-nice was not injuring the road it ought to be left alone. Moved by Councillor Petrie, 'and seconded by Councillor Murray — "That rhe resolution passed at a'former meeting be adhered to, and that Mr T Murray be allowed 14 days to remove the race, and all penalties remitted. " 1 Mr Thomas Murray appeared before rhe Council and apologised for deh-ing the Council in keeping- open the waterrace. Councillor Wayne moved an ampndment, and Councillor Duff seconded — "That Mr T. Murray's apology be accepted, and the resolution of former mepring be adhered to." The Inspector's report and monthly pay sheet, amounting 1 to LB2O, were read and adopted, and the amount passed for payment. ANNUAL MEETING. i The Chairman s-afed that rhe annual meeting of the, Council would be held on the fourth Wednesday in November, 1 and it was moved by Councillor Wayne, I and seconded by Councillor Duff — ! " That the ordinary meeting 1 be held on i that day ."—Carried. loudon's gully road. Letters were read from the Clerk to the i'okomsiiriro Road Board, enclosing ex:racts of minutes of meetings of the Board held 19th October, 18th November, 31st December, 1875, and 21st October 1877, also a resolution of the Board with reference to a statement of the dispute between the Gleuledi and Tokomairiro Road Boards. Councillor Wnyne moved that the County Council are of opinion that the Tokoimiiiiro Road Board have not as yet allowed any Council, Board, or individual to execute any work upon the London's Gully road, but if the Tokomairiro Road Board will now allow any Council. Board, or individual to lav out rhe subsidy granted by the Council for this most important work, they are willing to hand it over to them, provided that the money be properly expended as originally determined Seconded by Councillor Duff, and curried. At this stage the Council agreed to adjourn for a week.
