TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2.

The Speaker read a letter from the Hon. Henry Russell, stating that having had a opportunity of perusing the letters in Mr Locke's possession, which were quoted by Mr Ormbhd in the Hawkes Bay Land Transactions Committee debate, he had no objection to the tthole (thirteen in number) being laid on the table of the House. The letters were enclosed.

Mr Stout read a long statement from Mr Henry Russell, detailing all that took place between himself and Mr Cox and Sir George Grey in reference to the Taupo land transaction. He moved that this statment and the letters be printed.

Agreed to

Sir George Grey then, 'as a matter of privilege, moved that the proofs ofthe Hansard repurts of the debate on the ITawkes Bay land transaction be laid on the table. He had reason to believe they differed considerably from the report in Hansard.

The Speaker said he had the proofs in a sealed packet before him.

After a discussion Sir George Grey consented to withdraw his motion in favour of an amendment by Mr Harper, proposing the proof should be referred to the Reporting Debates Committee-, to ascertain as to alterations made. This was apreed to.

In reply to Mr Evans Brown,

The Premier promised a return ofthe cost ofthe Waka Maori from December to July, and when and by whom such cost was paid. -

The Hon. Major Atkinson promised copies of all correspondence received by Government regarding the Native Lands Suspension Bill.

New Bills introduced : — Public Reserves Bill (Mr Reid), Special Contracts Confirmation Bill (Mr Reid), Tokomairiro Farmers Club Reserve Bill (Mr Reid), Dunedin Town Hall Reserve Bill (Mr Stout), Ohristchurch District Drainage Act, 1875, Amendment Bill (Mr Evans Brown), County of Vincent Reserves Bill (Mr Pyke).

The District Railways Bill was read a third time and passed.
