PETITION BY THE INHABITANTS OF MATAURA.
The following' petition is being largely signed for presentation to the Hon. theSecretary of Lands : —
The petition ' of tho undersigned residents of the Macaurn township and neighbourhood, respcetiuliy s'hewetb,: — ' j lyt: That a portion of land, containI ing 50 -acres, more or less?, v;n^ on the ;, l.'Jt daj oi' October, 1308, reserved by , tbe Provincial. Council of the Province. of Southland, for ihe purpose of a ferry ! reserve and site for an accommodation home.-'. ; ; .: -- . . . ' 2nd. That tbe purposes for which the said land was reserved no jonger -exist. 3rd. That tbe said bind being' in the heart of the township is of a very vain- r able nature, and the sale of it Would •greatly benefit tbe township. ' 4tb. That a reserve for recreation, and also for' ah Agricultural and Pastoral Association' purposes are mueh'i needed, for the benefit and well-being of the township and 'surrounding' district, i . ' . .
