A Russian force has crossed the Danube at the Iron Gate Pass, and reached Janiboli. There is a rapid advance ofthe Russians on to Adrianople, in consequence of the defeat of the advance guard of Sulieman Pasha's army at Karabunas. Sulieman remains at Adrianoplo. The Turkish troops are evacuating Philippopolis. The Herald's special correspondent says it _is believed a crisis in the war is imminent. July 28. The grayest fears are entertained that the Christians at Stamboul will bo massacred. The Consuls are appealing to the Ambassadors of the Great Powers to intervene. Wheat firm : Now Zealand, 55s to 60s. New Zealand flax holders ask full rates. Tlio quantity of wool admitted for next sales is 303,205 bales, and includes arrivals per Opawa, Hurunui, City of Auckland, Ivakaia, Waipawa, Waitotara, May Queen, and Adamant. Bombay, July 26. _The > Russians have been repulsed at Silistria. A despatch from Sir A. W. Loftus to Earl TJorby pays that fears are entertained of terrible vengeance on the part of the Mussulmans for Russian atrocities. July 27. Obstructions in the House of Commons by Irish members culminated in an unprecedented scene. Farrcll was ordered to leave the Houso, and suspended until Friday, when Sir Stafford Northcote submits a motion to alter tho rules so as to facilitate business. July 28. Serious riots have occurred in Chicago. The military were called out, and fired, killing and wounding 130. The Russians have invested Silistria. July 30. Miehie visits Vienna on London's behalf. The Porte scnn-officially objects to a now order of things being created without her concurrence. _ The House of Commons have agreed to Sir Stafford Northcote's motions having for their object the facilitating of the public business. Singapore, July 26. The Russians have completely invested Rustchuk. Heavy skirmishes have taken place in the vicinity ol Silistria, Varna, and Shumla. July 28. A Turkish army corps concentrated at Plevna threatens the Russian communications with Iloumauia. The Turkish Landwchr has been called out. The Erie strike has ended. The mail steamer Tan i ore has arrived at Galle. July 29. An agitation has been formed in San Francisco against tho Chinese. A Vigilance Committee has been constituted. July 31. An outbreak of Mahometan fanaticism is feared in tho Levant. The Foreign Consuls in Constantinople demand that the war vessels should protect the Christians. The Austrian Cabinet has been summoned to deliberate on mobilisation. The Roumanians havo occupied N/icopolis.
