INDIA AND THE EAST.
The famine is scarcely abated. Threequarters of a million of people are still on the relief works at Madras, and a quarter of a million in Bombay. An uneasy feeling prevails amongst the Mohammedans in Affghanistan and some parts of India about the Turkish war The treaty negotiations with the Ameer of Affghanistan have been broken off by the Indian Government. The famine in China is very severe, and the Government is doing nothing for the people. The rebellion in Japan is still unsubdued.
