A. Mercer reports for the week ending June 7, as follows : — ! Retail prices only. — Fresh butter in Mb and lib prints, ls 5d to ls 7d per lb ; in lumps, ls 4d per lb. Powdered and salt butter, ls 4d per lb. Fresh butter of the best quality is getting scarce, but there is a good deal of inferior butter still coming in. Salt butter in keg, ls to Is Id per lb, but little demand. Cheese, best quality, j lOd to ls per lb. Side and rolled bacon, lOd to lid per lb. Colonial hams, ls Id to ls 2d per lb. Beef hams, 9d per lb. English hams, ls 4d per lb, and English cheese, Is 3d per lb, but little demand for either. Eggs are still scarce, but there is little or no demand owing to the high price, 3s per dozen.
