Messrs Maclean Brothers report for the week ending May 30, as follows : — Fat Cattle. — A small supply of 111 head was yarded for this day's market, the quality being from ordinary to prime. Under these circum stances a considerable improvement in prices might have been expected, but although all the cattle offered were sold at figures showing a slight improvement on the previous week's rates, we cannot alter our last quotations, which are — 25s to 27s 6d per lOOlbs for prime quality, and 22s 6d for ordinary. At the yai'ds we sold, on account of Wallace and Miller, John Shaw, and Waters Brothers, 50 head, at from £8 15s to £12 12s 6d for bullocks, £7 7s 6d to £12 for cows. We also sold 20 head stores at £4 15s to £5 10s per head. Fat Calves. — 14 only were yarded, of which we sold 12, at from 15s to 70a each, according to quality. Fat Sheep. — 1895 were penned, chiefly of superior quality, which met with fair competition, prices being slightly in favour of sellers. We sold on account of John Reid, Esq., Elderslie, 481 half-breds, at lls 9d to 12s ; on account of W. Jaffray, Esq., Saddle Hill, 55 wethers, at 10s to 10s 3d ; 29 ewes, 14s ; on account of Geo. Wilson, Esq., 50 inferior merinos, at 3s 3d. General quotations— cross-breds, 8s 6d to 14s; merinos, 33 3d to 6s. Fat Lambs. — We sold a few of very prime quality at 10s each, on account of Wm. Jaffray, Esq. fctore Cattle.— We understand that several lots have changed hands during the week — qviotations withheld. Our transactions have been limited to 40 head at £4 10s to £6. _ . Store Sheep. — We still have enquiiies for good young merino ewes, which are scarcely obtainable at any price. 4 and 6-tooth crossbreds are also in request. Of these latter we have placed 750 at 7s 3d to Bs. Wool. — Our latest telegrams from the Home market are in date London, May 26th, and to the following effect :—" 100,000 bales were offered at late sales. 70C0 bales were withdrawn, as the recent advance was partially lost owing to' weaker competition amongst French buyers. The greatest decline is in scoured and half-bred parcels. Lambs' command extreme ratea." In this market several small lots have been offered, and, considering the unsatisfactory nature of advices above quoted, a few parcels have been disposed of at fair rates. Sheepskins. — There was a good attendance at our usual weekly sale on Monday last, but the biddings were devoid of spirit, and for butchers' green skins and ordinary station lots prices were easier. ' Superior, skins in bales, however, brought ful,l prices, a small parcel of the CA over T

brand having fetched 7.} d per ih. We quote green skins at 2s Ccl to 3s for crossbred, and Is 9d to 2s for meriuos. "We catalogued and sold 1750 skins. Hides. — 60 only were offered, which were briskly competed for, and fetched 14s to 25s each — or equal to 4d per 11>. Tallow is in excellent request, and good bright mutton may be quoted at £34 per ton. Very little is offering. Grain. — Tho wheat market has been quieb during the past week, owing to paucity of supplies. Prices are firm up to 6s 3d for prime samples ; medium, 5s to 5s 6d ; inferior and fowls' feed, 3s 9d to 4s 9d. Oats have experidncod a considerable improvement in value during the past few days, as a very limited quantity is offering. We quote ordinary to good feed samples at 2s 8d to 2s lOd ; milling, 2s lid. Barley : prime milling qualities are scarce, and saleable up to 5s ; ordinary, 4s to 4s 6d ; milling and feed samples are in excessive supply, and slow of sale at 2s 9d to 3s 6d.
