' the following report of the retiring ' Committee was read and adopted :— .'.'''''■ The School Committee, in laying before* you the report of the- year's proceedings, desire to state that wheu they accepted office there was a debt of £11 9s against the- Committee, and they immediately took stops to clear ib off by means of a concert and soiree, which wa.«j highly sue: cessfal. Tbe -Committee has always held . a mefttiug on the first; Wednesday of every month, besides a number; 'of special' meetings. The Committee has also been very successful in gefcting'the schoolgrotmds fenced in..; and they also, instituted a series of concerts during the winter mouths, which was tbenieans of putting a considerable amount, of money at the disposal of the Committee. The income" for the' past twelve months has been— by concerts and otherwise, £49 43; two-thirds of repairs from Education Board, £43 ISs 6d.; making a total of £96; 2s 6d. .The Committee lias expended the whole' amount, which has been raised; with the exception of ii small* cash-balance which is. in the Treasurer's bands. The Committee' has also to state thafc they have, insured the school buildings for the sum of '£3oo. -The attendance af} the school has been very satisfactory. At the beginning, of last year thenumber on the roll was 99, with an average attendance . of 51, and for tbe last three months tbe number on *the roll'wa-*-* 120, with, ah average attendance of 86. The Committee- have -much *-*pl easure inlstatiug '. that the school is now raised to a District School, and that after repeated, applications we have at last succeeded in getting a female teacher granted, and it will therefore lie with bur sneces-. sors in office to take the necessary steps to get : one' appointed.
