Municipal Council.

: « . The usual fortnightly meeting" was held in the Council Chambers on the evening 1 of Tuesday. Present — Councillors Mason, Stewart, Kilgour, and Dunne. In the absence of the Mayor, Councillor Dunne was voted to the chair. After the routine business had boen disposed of and accounts examined and passed for payment, instructions were given to the Assessor that the assessment roll for 1875 should be furnished on as early a date as possible, together with a statement showing the blocks and numbers of sections, &c. It was also agreed that the Council should apply at once to the Government to h-.ive handed over all the suctions and reserves b?longing to the Municipality with the view of getting the same leased by the Council. The town surveyor submitted ulans of works proposed to be executed in Clyde-street. After discussion, it was resolved that the work should be allowed to stand over in the meantime until the harvesting operatione were finished A discussion was introduced by the chairman relative to the propriety of steps being taken to havp the bridge handed over to the Municipality. It was argued that the bridge revenues would be only a reasonable concession in view of the fact that the Council had all along defrayed the cost of miiintnining the mnin line of road through the town. The discussion dropped without any definite acrion being arranged ; but it is unden?tood that a deputation will shortly be named to urge the proposal on the attention of the Government.
