Resident Magistrate's Court
* A sitting of thfl Court was held yestmla\yn Balclutha. The acting Magistrate, Mr Carew, presided. Hohert M'Ovven was charged wi h shooting with firearms within the Municipality of Ralcluthf, contrary to the statute. It appeared by the evidence that on the evening of the 30th ult. the defendant, Mr. M'Owen had been attacked and bi r ten by a dog in the leg. The following- evening, the dog again made to attack him, and in self-defence he drew a revolver and shot, it in the head. The Magistrate held that Avhile a contravention of the Act had been committed, the surrounding circumstances justified its commission, and dismissed the charge. A few cases were also disposed of on the civil side, none of which were of public interest.
