WOOL SALES.

The opening sale of the season was held at Macleau Bros, warehouses on Saturday last, atid we are pleased to be able to report that a disposition to operate was freely manifested, both by local and American'buyers- that competition was spirited— and that, with one or two exceptions, all the lots offered were disposed of at prices which will be satisfactory to growers. : The wools submitted were, for t}ie greater part, what may fee described as medium quality, and in small lots. A parcel of merino, from the celebrated fleck of W, A. Tolmie, Esq,, -which attracted much attention and was I irenera'iy admitted to be superior to anything ever exhibited here, was passed in at 16d per lb, while a parcel of cross-bfeed realised the handsome figure of 15gd, There is no room for doubt that a market is now established here for all descriptions of wool, to which growers many confidently consign their clips, with the assurance of their being competed for up to full value, and, as regards ■ greasy wool specially, it but rests with growers themselves to conserve their own interest by meeting the American demand, and making the best profit out of their wools, by sblling, in effect, direct to the manufacturers. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report — In this market there is a good demand,, for light greasy wools for shipment to America, niiil any clips offering suitable for that market nre saleable at prices that should be satisfactory to growers. Mr 11. Driver reports having received the followin* telegram from Londpn^-" The sales closed flatly, K early all descriptions have declined l^d to 2d per lb. The 6ales comprise about So.noO bhles, 22,000 bales have been taken for export, 4000 bales have been withdrawn during the past sales. Prospects for the next sales not so good."
