(Before E. H. Carew, Esq., R.M.) Wednesday, December 23. S SLY- GROG SELLING. I Edward Day was charged, on the information of Sergt. Finnegan, tbat he did, on the 28th November last, at Catlin's River, sell and dispose of a quantity of alcoholic liquors without being duly licensed tor that purpose. Accused pleaded guilty, and at the request of the Bench the facts of the case were stated by the police as follows : — Defendant was the owner of a reputed grog shanty. On the date stated in the information a regatta took place at Catlin's River, and it was on that occasion that the offence charged was committed. Mr Taylor, solicitor, who appeared for defendant, stated that there was no licensed house within twelve miles of the place, and that defendant, knowing refreshments would be required by parties attending the regatta, procured some, and supplied them on the occasion referred to. Under the circumstances; a mitigated penalty of L 7 10s, and costs of Court, was inflicted. MINOK OFFENCE 3. Donald Campnell and David Brown were each charged by the police with having neglected to attend properly to horses and drays under their charge. The Bench dismissed both charges, on the ground tbat the information had been laid under a section of the Act which could not be held to apply to the cases in question. CIVIL CASE. Dunne v. Jamieson. — Plaintiff claimed L6 4a for cash advanced and goods supplied. Judgment was given by default for the amount claimed, with costs.
