Balclutha Town Council.
A meeting of the Balclutha Town Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. There were present — His Worship the Mayor, (in the chair) ; and Councillors M'Neil, Mason, and Kilgour. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Clerk reported the resu.lt of the inquiries he had made with reference to the cost, etc., ot a weighbridge for tbe township, and was instructed to order the same. The following letter was read from the Under-Secretary : — Provincial Secretary's Office, Dunedin, Sept. 3, 1874. Sir, — I have been directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the- 22nd August, 1874, inquiring whether any provision has. been made for the erection of a temporary station ou the north side of the river, until the '.Railway Bridge over the Clutha has been completed,' and' to acquaint you that no such provision has been made. lam to add, as a reason, that the contract tjme for the completion df the railway is lst September, 1875, and for the bridge, the 13th November, 1875, and that if the line is open before the bridge is iinished, the traffic of the 'district can be carried on from the Kaitangata station, only 110 chains distant from the river. The meeting then adjourned.
