• AUCKLAND, Dec. 29. Holiday- rnakers gaved the historic Whatipu Lodge at North Manukau Heads from probable destruction by .a fire which started in the laundry. The laundry and two bathrooms were destroyed, but four buildings were saved. Whatipu Lodgc, once a shipping signal station, is owned by the Auckland Harbour Board and leasea as a tourist house. Insurances are £501) on the buildings and £1500 on tlie contents.
