The Auckland Aero Club Tiger Moth. aircraft which left Wanganui at 2 p.m. today en route for New Piy mouth?-failed to reaeh its destination and ib believed missing in Taranaki. The aircraft t was scheduied to arrive at Nlw Plymouth at 8 J.5 p.ni. and it was iast'heard fiying. over Waverley at about 3.30 p.m. * „ The aeroplane earried the pilot . with his father as passenger. They were: — - • MR. 1AN PALMER, air cadet, of Wigram, aged 19, the pilot. MR. O^WALD PALMER, 80 Vietoria Street, Onehunga, an
employee of the Auckland Harbour Board. .' Two R.N.Z.A.. LLarvard aircraft were dispatched - from Ohakea Aerodrome at intervaL late this afternoon in search of the missing, aeroplaiie Poor visibility made their task diffieult, however, and ;a larger and more extensive search 'will .be conducted tomorrow if weather conditions permit. Father and son arrived at Wanganui on ; Wednesday from Rotorua in the Tiger Moth and stayed overnight at Wanganui They Uft at -2 p.m, - today for Mangere via New Plymouth and had petroT for three hours of fly-
ing. They intended to refuel at Bell Block.
