N.Z. Catalinas To Go To Hong Kong
WELLINGTON, Dec. 21 Two Catalina flyfrig-boats from No. 5 Squadron R.N.Z.A.F., will be transferred to Hong Kong next month for duty with the R.A.F. There they will be ex,ehanged for two' R.A.F. Sunderlands at present on duty in the Par East. Announeiug this today, the chief ot the Air Staff, Air Vice-Marslial A. de T. Nevill, said the excliange would be for a period of about two months. It was ! in' line with the normal policy of exehanging defence units between Com.; monwealth countries. Essentially an air-sea rescue organisation, No. 5 Squadron is based at' Lauthala jBay, Fiji, with a detachment op(erating from Hobsonville. The two Catalinas will leave Fiji at the end of January and the Sunderlands will take over their adrmal ditties there. Upon arrival at Hong Kong the Catalinas and 'jthgif New Zealand erews will come |un!der the opdrational e'ommand of headquartdrs, Far Eastern Air Force, R.A.F, I The R.N.Z.A.F. is already eo-opefat-ing with the R.A.F. in maintaining five Douglas Dakoths and air and gronnd erews at Ghangi, Siftgapore, for trhns I pori .duty. to Hong Kong.
