Preston, S.M., in the Magistrate 's 1 Court, Wanganui, when dealing with an adjourned applieation for possession 1 of 3 house at 51 Eox Road, oecupied Dy LeSlie Athel Willcox, an ex-serviceman who served with distinction in the Long Range Desert Group in World War IT, The order for possession was sought j by the ownet; of the house, Edwin C. ; Eagles, butelier, Wanganui, and after being told at the original hearing two. We'eks ago that for five and a-haif years Willcox had been on the priority list for a State rental house, the magistrate 6aid that for a man with his record he had had a raw deal. The case was ad journed while a report from the housing ' authorities was obtained. When the matter again |ame before the Court, the magistrate said that ne appreciated from the reports reeeivea that the Housing Allocation Committee sacrifiee meritorious service for extreme urgeney. "After considering the whole position I have deeided that -the best course would be to make an order for immedi3t6 possession, the warrant to be suspended for thr.ee months," the magistrate added. "Within that period I have every ; reason to believe th'at Willcox will have been allocated a house and tnat will solve the problem for • both parties. ' ' After making an order aeeordingiy, the magistrate said that the Court ' appreciated the interest whieh Mr. Cotterill, as ehairman of the committee |for allocating State houses to ex-ser-vicemen, had taken in the ease since the position was disclosed. Alr. Cotterill had assisted the Court in coming to a deeision, whieh it was believed would solve the problem.
