Shannon Institute's Monthly Meeting

At the December meeting of the Shannon Women's Iiistitute Mrs. Claridge, of Opiki, was the guest of honour prior to her early departure for Ehgland. In presenting the guest with a box of handkerchiefs, the president, Mrs. D. A. Fitzgerald, expressed gratitude for all Mrs. Claridge was doing in the movement and wished her an er^oyable trip. Mrs.- Claridge, in reply, said she expected to att^~d the A.C.W.W. conference in Cc enhagen, and . then travel through France and Switzerland. She would make every effort to visit as many institutes • as possible while in England and hoped to have the opportunity of discussing her trip when she returned home. , A vote of sympathy with Mrs. Radford in the death of her sister was passed, and syinpathy with Mrs. Tricker in her prolonged illness was also expressed. Mrs. Thorne agreed to undertake the* duties of writing letters from the institute. Christmas greetings were received from the local R.S.A. A questionnaire from an electrical firm suggesting improvements in the maiiufacture of electric ranges proved most interesting and was discussed with enthusiasm. A collection of doll furniture made by Mrs. Kilminster was on display, and it is to be forwarded to the hospital visitor, Mrs. Penketh. A similar collection of miniature furniture made by Mrs. A. Burling was sent in last month, together with gifts for the hospital from the members. Mrs. Bovis presented the financial statement for the recent rose show, disclosing a credit balance of £5. It was agreed to hold the January meeting as usual and Mesdames W. Easton, Munroi Bovis, Moss, Foote, Holland and Lund were elected a committee to organise the programme. * Games and competitions were followed by members forming. a circle around a large decorated basket of .. exchange Christmas gifts. Carols were sung as each member in turn took a parcel. An exchange of seasonal greetings closed a successful year. The competition winners were : — "Sketch of the Christmas Gift I Want": Mrs. Morrison. Cluster: Mrs. Roberts 1, Mesdames Grifiiths and Kilmister (equal) 2, Mrs. C. Stern 3. The secretary of the rose show committee, Mrs. J. T. Bovis, announced that winners of competitions held in connection with the recent show were Mesdames A. Smith and S. Pedersen and Miss Dawn Easton. Heipers whose names were unfortunately missed from the former report of the show were Mesdames Tregill, Lund and August.
