Mail Deliveries Reach Peak In Levin
It could be fairly safely said that there has not been a single housebiolder who has not received mail every day this week, Christmas cards taking a high plaee in the favouritism. Not so popular and n} small jar to the conscienceS of those about to embark on a spending orgy over the festive season are the greetings of the • Taxation Department, which has taken the opportunity of reminding the taxpayer that financial* obligations to the State fall due in March. The mail room° at the Levin Post Offi.ce is feeling the strain of heavy postings and the parcel section has already moved out to the lawn at the rear of the building. to lessen the pressure on fioor space. The postmen say that this is the heaviest posting of Christmas cards they; have handled in years. The large parcels of last year are not in evidence this year, tthose handled to date appearing ro be smaller. Sms 11 packages are in heavier
numbers than previously. Monday was the busiest day for outward and inward mail. The parcel delivery service van has been extremely busy. In the borough alone on Saturday it travelled 44 miles, on Monday 44 miles and yesterday. 47 miles. • The four postmen, who have also been doing sterling work at both sorting in the mail room and in deliveries, have been reinforced by seven assistants now. They and all the staff at Levin's Post Office are certainly deservihg of praise at this the climax of a year of service to the public.
