CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 20. A holiday she had spent in Auckland recently had been spoilt by a visit to the Auckland Zoo, said Mrs. F. G. Johnson at Ihe annual meeting of the Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals last night. The ear.s of a lion and lioness were raw and eaten and they were covered with flies "I was pleased to learn affcerwards that they had died and their misery was ended," Mrs. Johnson said. "A polar bear was also in agony with the heat and flies," she said. Clapping greeted a statement by the president, Mr. H. P. Bridge, that he had worked to have the zoos in Auckland and Wellington done away with it. Forty members present carried a motion expressing support for any practical steps aimed at having the zoos in New Zealand closed and prohibiting travelling zoos and menageries
