The visit was also to meet and ex- ! change seasonal greetings • with i the staff, s who entertained the i ' b'oard at morning tea. The women members were on -hand with plates of sandwiches, cakes and a welcome cup of tea and floral decorations gave the flnal toueh :to a Christmas atmosphere. i * Addresslng the gathering, the chairman of the- board, Mr. T. [Vincent, wished all members of s the staff the compliments of the t season./ The. board greatly appreFbiated the staff's work over the rpast 12 months and considered it *had a really good band of work!c'rs. . He would like to thank •th'em all on behalf of the. -board cghd the consumers oi the district. ?The board was alive to the faet ithat it must move With the times :in 'the question of working con;ditions. It had to be realised, of . course, that, unlike a private firm, the board was somewhat" restricted by the * Act under which it operated. The • board, neverthe- . less, gave much of its time and -consideration to the well-being of the staff.
Replying, the managmg-secre-tary, Mr. R. A. Frederikson, said that he would like to thank the board, particularly on behalf of those whose duties prevented them from being present, and he
.extended an invitation to members to be present on Thursday afternoon, when all the staff .Would be present. The staff, he •felt, appreciated the efforts *bf the board, on their behalf. He also extended season's greetings to 'members and their families. : -On behalf of the engineering section of the staff, the board's engineer, Mr. J. F. Bryce; expressed pleasure at the attendance of the board and extended ibest wishes for the coming festive season to both members and ; their families. : Mr. W. Meddings, on behalf of the depot staff, added his appreciation of the board's kind refer1 ences to the work to the staff ;and said that all were pleased to have the board members as their guests. The last speaker was Mr..F. W. Vickerman, who thanked the wpmen members of the staff for provfding morning tea, not only on that occasion but in the board roorfi before the commeiicement of each meeting.
