Doctor Complains Of Low Water Supply
Water being used for other thah domestic purposes was the cause of a complaint from Dr. G. M. Smith, of Waikanae, received by the Horowhenua County Council at a meeting on Wednesday. He said that on several occasions h£ had been unable to obtain water in his clinic for surgical purposes: Dr. Smith attributed the trouble to the fact that water was being used for other than domestic purposes, such as hosing gardens. The complaint was referred to . the. works committee. A request from Mr. A. H. Akers for permission to extend a. drain 50 chains along the boundaries of the H. Akers' estate and Tane Road, Opiki, "Hwas granted by the council. The project would involve the replacement of ; one culvert and the removal of two others, the idea being to improve the drainage of land adjoining the road. A letter received from the Otaki Maori Racing Club suggested that the tar sealing of Te Roto Road' be carried out as a joint operatibn •by the club and the council. " The club contended that the work was necessary owing to the dusty nature of the road and the inconvenience caused to race visitors who used the road. Following a report from a special committee of the council, the suggestion was approved at a cost of £150, the council contributing £25. Traffic Inspector D. W. S. Boyes reporce'd that during November 17 applicants for driving licences had been tested, 16 passing the test. No accidents had come to his notice during the month.
