County Engineer Reviews Month's Work
During November 39 building permits had been issued for work to the value of £22,411, bringing the total ' value of building .work for the year to date to £108,568. During the corresponding period last year the total value of building work amount to £66,673. This was stated by the acting engineer, Mr. W. H. Fraser, in his report to the Horowhenua County Courf'cil at a meeting on Friday. Continuing, the engineer said that general ma'intenance work had. been carrie'd out as required within the four ridings. The reformation of a section of the Tokomaru-Poplar Road preparatory. to sealing had been com-. pleted. During the month 'the graders had worked in the various ridings as follows: Tokomaru, 207 hours; Wirokino, 187 hours; Otaki, 86 hours; Te Horo, 87 hours. In the Tokomaru Riding accumulated flood depris and willows had been removed for the piers of Hennessey's Road Brfdge and' repairs made- to the decking of No: 2 bridge on Buckley Road. A washout which had occurred on Gladstone Road in the Wirokino Riding had received attention and a nine inch diameter culvert had been installed in the Kuku water races, replacing an ol'd wooden culvert which had collapsed. ' In the Otaki Riding trees and scru'b had been cut back on the Rahui Road and 78 cubic yards . of metal spread on the North Manakau Road. • Repairs had been effected to the footpath on Seddon Street, Waikanae Township, in the Te Horo Riding, and one ad-ditional connection, had been made to the Waimeha water supply during the month.' Concluding, the engineer said the - ranger reported having - had no trouble with wandering stock, and that the total number of dogs registered for the year wa's 1399.
