RUSSIANS CLAIM NEW ATOM SMASHER
Received Saturday, 12.52 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 16. The British United Press Berlin correspondent -says Russia had invented a new atom smasher which was better than those elsewhere. The offieial Soviet News Bureau in Berlin claimed this ( today. It said that the new machine combined the principles of the cyclotron and the beztron — the types of atom smashers ndw in existence, The Russians called it the "syncraton," and said it gave electrons much more energj'than that created in betatrons,
