Violent And Brutal Scenes In U.S, Film

Received Friday, 8.5 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 15. Major Hollywood film producers have received a letter from the British Board of FUm Censors protesting against violent and brutal scenes in too many American films. This was the second such protest in a year. The letter complained that too many cuts were necessary in removing sadistic sequences from American films. It added that the outright banning of a film might follow where the basic theme was such that cutting could not remove the objectionable part. The letter particularly criticised shootings and killings in brutal circumstances, gruesome experiences, fights that were prolonged or contained foul blows, and torture scenes. It advised the producers to avoid also scenes of men striking women in the face. There has been no immediate reaction by the producers to the letter.
