Red Officials Kicked Out Of Union
LONDON, Dee. 14. ! Nme full-time officials of Britain 's largest union — the Transport and General Workers — were saclted today beeause they are Communists. They are the onlv ones among the union 's 560 paid officials who refused to sign the deelaration that fhey were neither Communists. nor Pascists. The deeision to dismiss the officials, who had been given until November 30; to resign, was taken by 28 votes to 8 of the union 's national executive. In the next two months there will be eleetions for hundreds of unpaid jobs in tne union. Onlv those signing the pleage will be eligible, and hundreds of Communists are expeeted to lose office. Viscount Davidson, president of the Engineering-s Industries Association, told a Manchester meeting that the odject of the Communists in Britain 's ±ac"toiues and workshops was to destroy and not to build. _ The policy of go slow and absenteeism was fostered bv the Communists who have persuaded large numbers oi" industrial workers that the only way to avoid unemplovment is to spin out a job for the longest possible time. Insne factory and shop there is a red curtiin represented by the Communist shop steward^ with the purpose of preventing amicahle relations between tne management and the workers. It behoves every emplover to give the utmost support to those leaders in the trades union movement who, realising the stark facts, are with great eourage telling the workers the truth."
