Christchurch Sale Maintains High Level

CHRISTCHURCH, Dec.. 14. , Without any record prices being. paid over the early . stages, wool values maintained a levei at the first Christchurch sale this; morning. Fme wools, which com--pfised the bulk of the ehtry of 31,714 bales, though not as high in price "as they were at the first sale iast season, exceeded end of the season rates by 2d to §d per lb, , . i't was arnong the coarser woois, and bellies, pieces and crutchings (that the most marked rises took; place. Three-quarter-bred and crossbred fleece wool was. from 4d to 6d per lb. dearer than last season's clbsing rates and coarse wool oddments were as much as lOd deare-r, with fine wool oddments 4d to 5d dearer. Competition was fairly well spread. Local mills 'took che best of the fine fleece wools at -top prices, with spirited competition from the _Continent for some of the higher. grades. American orders were believed to be a faetor in the demand for medium grade fine wools and coarser types. ;
