Trial Of Manstein Drawing To Close
Received Alondav, i p.m. LONDON, Dec. 12. The sumniing up in the three-nionths-old war crimes trial of the Nazi PieidMarshal Erich von Manstein, will liegin on Deeember 12, states Keuter's Haiuburg correspondent. Judge.J. A. Collingwood 's sunnning up is expected to take three or four days owing to the eomplexity of the arguments raised and the inass of evidence. The ver'dict of the British Court is not expected until a few days before Christnias. Due to the care he had received at the British Militarv Hospital here, tne 62-year-old Manstein, accused of atrocities during the Polish and 'Russian campaigns, is in good physical shape. He has been under the care of British medical offieers for over a year. Manstein oecupies a suite consisting of a bedroom, private lounge and bathfoom in the hospital. His wife visits him every day and beside normal , British arniy rations, he gets stout and a daiiy tot pf whisky. The trial began on August 23, when Judge Collingwood startea to read the indietnient of 17 charges fllling 39 closely typed fullscap . pagcs.
