Mo'st homes this Christmas ;.wiU have well-stocked pantries as supplies o-f lamb, hams and small goods will be sufiicient to meet all demands. .Local grocery firms' report that the cake fruit position is good and thqre -are' adequate supplies of sultanas ahd: currants on hand, although raisins will be diffieult to procure. Stocks oi mixed cake fruits will be sufiicienfc to meet the deman'd of those ihousewives who like to make their bwft Christmas cakes. Ready .ftiade cakes are already making tlieir appearance in local shops and tlliS ydar's selection is well, up tq pye-war standard in quality and decorative design. . The housswife will, however, find that nuts are not in very good supply and it is expeeted that many homes will have to make do with peanuts (shelled or unshelled) . and a few walnuts and almonds. Tinned fruit remains an unknown quantity. Local retailers are optimistic, as it is understood that a shipment which recently arrived in Wellington may be distributed in time for Christmas shoppers. There will be adequate confectionery supplies to meet all demands.
