Traffic Offenders Before Otaki Court
Briving an unregistered motor .vehicle Was the charge brought by the Transport Department against William Starling Clark, in the Magistrate's CouTc, Otaki, yesterday. He was further charged with failing to be in possession of a driver's licence: Traffic Inspector Davis said that on Septemoer 14 he had stopped defendant on the Otaki-Levin highway. Defe'ndant was driving a farming road machine which had no licence p.ates. The cost of .plates for the vehicle was only 2s 6d. Defendant also had no driver's licence and he had observed that although stopped on the way to Levin, defendant had returned later to Otaki with a different machine, which also had no plates on it. Defendant was fined £1 on each charge. Court 'costs were 10s on each charge. Exceeding the speed limit for a heavy mo'ior vehicle cost Thomas Edward Goodwin, of Wellington, 30s and court costs of 10s. Prosecuting, Traffic Inspector R. B. Doggett said that defendant was driving a van near Waikanae. He had checked his speed at 43 m.p.h., whereas the limit for the vehicle was 30 m.p.h. Defendant wrote pleading guilty and was convicted accordingiyLicensing Charges. Charged with being on lieensed premises after hours, Rawhiti Higgott was convicted and fined £1 and Pataka Webster £2. There was ho appearance of either defendant. Sergeant Hughes said that at 9.30 p.m. on November 24 he had visited the Jubilee Hotel and found both defendants in the pas-« sage. They had explained that they had just finished work and were looking for a beer. Webster had been before the' court two months ago on a similar charge, Court coaW In each case were 10s.
