Te Horo School Wins Group Calf Championship

The Levin School grounds were the mecca yesterday for teachers and pupils from primary schools. all over the district, the occasion being the group judging in the calf rearing competitions conducted each year by the Horowhenua Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club. Throughout the past three weeks preliminary judging has taken place at individual schools and yesterday the placed calves were brought to Levin for the final adjudications. As is always the case, there was a very large attendance of club members, teachers, pupils and parents, showing the keen interest which these competitions afrouse.

The judge on this occasion was Mr. J. Leach and he made the following awards:— Group championship. — Te Horo School 1, Ohau School 2, Otaki School 3. ^ Senior championship. — George Collis (Levin) 1, Noeline Nielson (Manakau) 2, Flora Whiteman (Otaki) 3. -j . Dairy type championship. — Gavin Kidd (Ohau) 1, Moira Jackson (Koputaroa) 2, Marcelle Jansen (Poroutawhao) 3. Junior championship. — Florence Tatana (Porotawhao) 1, Dorothy McCardy (Tokomaru) 2, Gwylfa Horn (Ohau) 3. Yearling championship.— vivienne Fogden (Otaki) 1, Malcolm Piper (Manakau) 2, Bruce Malcolm (Levin) 3.
