Seddon, when speaking to. a I large gathering at the iuneheon meeting of the Horowhenua Boys'and Girls' Agrieuitural Qlub, held in Levin, yesterday, as part of the group judging fuhction. The calf clubs served an excellent purpose as long as a sensibfe balance was ,kept hptween . the competicive and social sides pf theif activities, Mr. Seddon * ass.ured listeners that his board's mterest in the organisatipn was a real one ahd that it wa& Ohl/ cpo eager to give help in the cause, Iii conchision, Mr. Seddon fhahhed averyone who had heipe'd and stated that without the" co.-ci.pera-tion of the pfffeials and farmers in that respect, the cfub wouid not have been rewarded with the success that it had had ahd was enjoying. The pre§ident of the club, Mr, R. L. Robinson, extended a welcome to the visitors -■ahd made special mention of the good work done hy the oflicials. "This is the twentieth occasion that we have met in these circums'tances, and it is safe for me to say that the movement is making great progress. Furthermore, the children a|nd adults alike are just as enthusiastic as when the movement was initiated," he added. Mention . of the great assistance given to the club by the teachers, was ma(ie by Mr. W. I. Deavoll, secretary of the Wellington Education Board, who stated that it was only the splendid cooperation of the oflicials, teachers and judges that made the club djay the success it was. "Ail the work done is for the benefit of the children and it is a great gesture," he commented. "I have had a lot to do wifb calf clubs over a period of many years, and I find much pleasure in judging the chiidren's exhibits,"said the judge, Mr. J. Leaoh. He t-hen comnhmen'ted the club on its success and wished it luck in the comirig seasons. This season was to be the last occasio on which the 'secretary of ihe club, Mr. C. E. Wiseley would be assisting with the eompetitions in Levin. This was stated by the president who. added that Mr. Wiseley, who was moving tp another district, had wniingly given much of his time to the benefit of the club. "All I can say is that it has been very easy being president, while Mr. Vfiseley has. been secretary, and I am very sorry to see him, gp." Replying, Mr. Wiseley thanked the president for 'his remarks and said that everyone who had helpr ed him so willingly had made his. duties very light. "The interest shown by the farmers ha? been most helpful. This experience has been of great benefit to me," he Ud'ded. The Iuneheon was prepared and served by members of the Women's Divjsion of Federated Farmers.
